Assoc. Prof. Dr. Si Chen | Tactile Cognition | Best Researcher Award

Researcher at Jiangsu University, China

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Si Chen is a leading researcher in tactile cognition and haptic interaction whose career bridges materials science, tribology, and cognitive neuroscience. She earned her PhD via a joint program between China University of Mining and Technology and The Ohio State University, and later conducted postdoctoral work as a visiting fellow at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her lab investigates how touch, friction, and material interfaces drive perceptual and cognitive integration in haptics. Dr. Chen has successfully led multiple funded projects as Principal Investigator including grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Jiangsu Provincial Natural Science Foundation, and postdoctoral science foundations and has published over 30 academic articles. Her scholarly impact is evident in her h-index of 8 and ≈ 371 citations Beyond publications, she is an inventor: she has filed more than 10 Chinese invention patents and 1 PCT patent, reflecting her translational orientation toward real-world tactile and haptic technologies. In recognition of her promise, in 2019 she was honored as an “Excellent Young Key Teacher” under the Young Talents Cultivation Program at Jiangsu University. Her professional service includes membership in the Tribology Branch of the Jiangsu Mechanical Engineering Society, founding committee membership in the Haptic Perception and Interaction Committee of the China Instrument and Control Society, an executive committee role in the Human-Computer Interaction Committee of the China Computer Federation, and committee membership on the Medical-Engineering Translation Committee of the Jiangsu Biomedical Engineering Society.
